Hasakah, Sept. 20 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management has launched a proactive plan to reduce the risks of floods and flash floods in Hasakah province, focusing on communities along the Khabour River and valley watercourses.

The ministry said Saturday the plan was based on a comprehensive risk assessment and lessons learned from flooding in the province last year, with priority areas including Tal Hamis, al-Yaaroubiyah and Ras al-Ain.

The first phase is underway in Tal Hamis, covering Wadi al-Makhban and several villages to the south, the ministry said in a statement posted on Telegram.

Work has also begun in al-Yaaroubiyah, including the villages of al-Sayha and al-Butha, to address areas identified as posing the greatest risk.

The ministry said the measures were part of efforts to strengthen disaster prevention and preparedness in Hasakah and improve local communities’ ability to respond to flood risks.
