Brussels, April 20 (SANA) The European Union reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian Authority and the two-state solution amid ongoing regional tensions affecting the Palestinian issue.
According to AFP, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot said during a meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in Brussels that participants “cannot abandon the compass,” referring to the need to maintain a political track despite escalating crises.
Prévot said developments in the region are affecting stability in the Middle East and beyond, calling for continued international efforts to revive the political process.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the bloc “can and must do more” to bring the two-state solution back to negotiations more effectively.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa said Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine and called for its future administration to be transferred to the Palestinian Authority. He described the current moment as one combining a major tragedy with a narrow but real opportunity to advance a just and lasting peace.
European positions remain varied, with some capitals pushing for a tougher stance toward Israel while others remain cautious due to concerns over regional security arrangements. The EU continues to seek a role in advancing the two-state solution amid declining political momentum.
