Beijing, May 13 (SANA)U.S. President Donald Trump arrived Wednesday in Beijing on an official visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
Xinhua news Agency quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry as saying that the two presidents plan to discuss major issues related to bilateral ties as well as global peace and development.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, during a press briefing, stated that China is ready to work with the U.S. to boost cooperation and find a common ground.
In his two-day visit, Trump is accompanied by a delegation of business leaders, among them Elon Musk, as his visit is related to trade and commercial cooperation.
Earlier on Tuesday, President Trump told reporters that he planned to hold “extensive talks” with President Xi regarding Iran, which continues to sell most of its oil to China despite U.S. sanctions.
Also during this week, Trump said he intended to raise the issue of U.S. arms sales to Taiwan during his discussions with Xi, along with other matters such as China’s limits on rare earth exports, competition in artificial intelligence, and the increasingly strained trade relationship between the two countries.
This visit marks the first time in nearly nine years that a U.S. president has traveled to China.
Both U.S. and China are working to steady their relationship, even as the two rivals continue to compete in trade and broader geopolitical affairs.
