Beirut, May 6 (SANA) A Lebanese court on Wednesday acquitted and ordered the release of Lebanese singer Fadel Shaker and Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir.
Beirut Criminal Court found both men not guilty in a case related to an alleged attempt to assassinate a Hezbollah militia official in the southern city of Sidon in 2013.
According to the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), the court, headed by Judge Bilal Dannawi, issued its ruling by majority vote, acquitting both defendants and ordering their release unless they are being held in other cases.
Al-Assir is known as one of the most prominent opponents of Hezbollah militia and a supporter of the Syrian revolution.
Fadel Shaker had surrendered to the Lebanese army in April last year near the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp in southern Lebanon after years of hiding following in-absentia rulings.
