London, May 4 (SANA) A tanker was struck by unidentified projectiles north of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Monday.
The agency said it had received a report of an incident about 78 nautical miles north of Fujairah, where a vessel reported being hit, adding that the crew was safe.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region and disruptions to shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz, a key corridor for global energy supplies.
On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump said several countries had asked Washington for help in freeing ships stranded in the strait, adding that an operation would begin on Monday.
The U.S. military announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in April following the collapse of initial negotiations between the United States and Iran.
