Beirut, April 30 (SANA) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Thursday that Israel continues to target civilian areas in southern Lebanon despite a declared ceasefire, urging international pressure to halt the attacks.
Speaking to a delegation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Lebanon’s National News Agency quoted Aoun as saying that Israeli violations have persisted in villages and towns across the south, including the destruction of homes and places of worship, with casualties continuing to rise.
He added that the attacks have also targeted emergency responders, noting that around 17 paramedics from the Lebanese Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations have been killed, along with media workers.
Aoun said rescue teams are carrying out life-saving missions under dangerous conditions despite prior coordination of their movements, describing their work as a high-risk humanitarian effort.
He called on the international community to press Israel to comply with international law and cease targeting civilians, medical personnel, civil defense teams and humanitarian organizations.
He also urged support to determine the fate of Lebanese detainees held in Israeli prisons, saying Israel has not allowed the International Committee of the Red Cross to access them.
Aoun said on Wednesday that lasting security can only be achieved through negotiations and called for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
