New Delhi, Aug. 3 (SANA) At least 14 people have died and thousands have been displaced after heavy rain triggered floods and landslides across parts of southern India over the past two days, authorities said.

Reuters reported that at least 11 people were killed in the southern state of Kerala, where widespread flooding forced thousands from their homes. In neighboring Karnataka, a rain-triggered landslide killed three members of the same family.

Kerala’s State Disaster Management Authority warned of strong winds and moderate rainfall in several districts on Sunday as emergency officials continued relief operations, managed emergency shelters and carried out flood recovery efforts.

The severe weather also forced the closure of numerous schools across the state, while the Kerala government postponed a statewide teacher recruitment examination because of the heavy rain.
