Geneva, April 11 (SANA) – Several United Nations agencies on Saturday expressed deep concern over continued violations of international humanitarian law in the Middle East, calling for an end to impunity for widespread abuses.
In a joint statement, senior officials from multiple UN bodies, including UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher and representatives from agencies covering human rights, health, food security, refugees and children, said civilians are bearing the brunt of ongoing hostilities.
The statement pointed to a rising human toll since the outbreak of conflict on Feb. 28 between the United States, Israel and Iran.
The agencies urged all parties to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians, humanitarian workers and civilian infrastructure.
They condemned attacks on civilians and aid personnel, warning of serious consequences for women, children and people with disabilities.
The statement also cited reports of strikes affecting health workers, with hospitals and ambulances damaged. It added that schools and key civilian infrastructure, including bridges, residential buildings, water facilities and power stations, had also been hit.
The statement came as U.S. President Donald Trump announced a two-week pause in military operations against Iran. Talks between the sides began Saturday in Islamabad aimed at reaching a ceasefire.
