Washington, April 9 (SANA) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that American forces deployed near Iran will remain stationed in the region until a “real agreement” is reached and fully implemented.
“All U.S. ships, aircraft, and military personnel, with additional ammunition, weaponry, and anything else that is appropriate and necessary for the lethal prosecution and destruction of an already substantially degraded enemy, will remain in place in, and around, Iran, until such time as the real agreement reached is fully complied with,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, according to Agence France-Presse.
Trump had earlier announced a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran following 39 days of conflict.
After Pakistan mediated the agreement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that negotiations between Iran and the United States are scheduled to take place on Friday in Islamabad, with the aim of reaching a “final agreement.”
