Occupied Jerusalem, April 6 (SANA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli minister Itamar Ben‑Gvir on Monday evening, warning that the move poses serious risks to the sanctity of the holy site.
In a statement carried by the Palestinian news agency Wafa, the ministry said the incursion took place while the mosque has remained closed to Muslim worshippers for 38 consecutive days, describing the move as a grave violation of the religious and spiritual status of the site.
The ministry stressed that repeated incursions by Israeli officials constitute a blatant assault on a site that is exclusively a Muslim place of worship, warning that such actions represent attacks on Islamic holy sites and reflect a growing escalation under the current Israeli government.
It called on Arab and Islamic institutions to assume their responsibilities in defending Al-Aqsa Mosque, urging them to raise the issue internationally and demand an end to restrictions preventing worshippers from accessing the site.
The ministry also urged international organizations to take urgent action to protect the mosque from what it described as escalating Israeli violations, while calling on Palestinians to remain steadfast at the site in the face of continued incursions.
Ben-Gvir entered the Al-Aqsa compound earlier Monday under heavy protection from Israeli occupation forces, according to Palestinian sources.
