Cairo, March 23 (SANA) – The Arab League strongly condemned continued Israeli occupation attacks on Lebanon, including the systematic targeting of infrastructure and bridges, describing them as a blatant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international law.
In a statement on platform X, spokesperson for Secretary-General Jamal Roshdy said that Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed concern over rising tensions in Lebanon due to the Israeli attacks, reaffirming support for Lebanese efforts to maintain internal stability and address the worsening humanitarian situation.
The statement said Israel’s objectives have become clear in its attempt to establish a buffer zone in southern Lebanon, warning of policies aimed at fragmentation and displacement. It also stressed the responsibility of the UN Security Council to halt the attacks and ensure Israel’s compliance with international law and relevant resolutions, including full implementation of Resolution 1701.
Israel has intensified its attacks on Lebanon since March 2, following strikes by Hezbollah on Israeli positions, with near-daily air raids targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs as well as areas in the south and the Beqaa, alongside ground incursions.
According to Lebanon’s Council of Ministers, the total toll has reached 1,029 killed and 2,786 injured since the start of the Israeli attacks.
