Doha, March 19 (SANA) Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani warned Thursday that targeting vital facilities, including energy and water infrastructure, poses a direct threat to regional and international stability, renewing calls for immediate de-escalation.
According to the Qatar News Agency, the remarks came during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, in which the two leaders discussed regional developments following the attack on Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar’s main liquefied natural gas hub.
Sheikh Tamim described the incident as a dangerous escalation that undermines security and threatens global energy supplies, calling for intensified international efforts and diplomatic engagement to contain tensions and prevent further deterioration.
Macron, in turn, stressed the need for an immediate halt to military escalation targeting civilian infrastructure, particularly energy and water facilities. He underscored the importance of protecting civilians and safeguarding global energy supplies.
The developments follow an attack on gas facilities in Ras Laffan that caused fires and significant damage, according to Qatari authorities, in the context of escalating regional tensions.
Qatar strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a serious violation of its sovereignty and a threat to national security and regional stability. It also affirmed its right to respond in accordance with international law and requested the departure of Iranian military and security attachés from its embassy in Doha.
Ras Laffan Industrial City, located north of Doha, is the main center for liquefied natural gas production and export in Qatar and one of the largest such facilities in the world.
