Capitals, March 10 (SANA) Kuwait’s National Guard said Tuesday it had shot down six drones that entered the country’s airspace amid heightened regional tensions.
National Guard spokesperson Brigadier General Jadaan Fadel Jadaan said in a statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the drones were intercepted in areas under the responsibility of forces securing sites in the north and south of the country.
He said the interceptions were part of ongoing efforts to enhance security, protect vital facilities and counter potential threats.
The development comes a day after Kuwait summoned Iran’s ambassador, Mohammad Totonji, for the second time and handed him a formal protest note over what it described as continued Iranian attacks on the country.
Regional tensions have also been fueled by a drone attack targeting the United Arab Emirates’ consulate in Erbil, in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.
The UAE said the strike caused material damage but no injuries. In a statement carried by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned what it described as a “treacherous terrorist drone attack.”
The ministry said targeting diplomatic missions represents a clear violation of international laws and norms, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees immunity for diplomatic premises and personnel.
It described the attack as a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability and called on both the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and take necessary measures.
