Ankara, March 9 (SANA) Türkiye’s Defense Ministry said Monday that NATO air defense systems intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Iran after it entered Turkish airspace.

In a statement, the ministry said that “a ballistic projectile launched from Iran that entered Turkish airspace was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense systems stationed in the eastern Mediterranean.”

The ministry added that fragments fell in an open area near the city of Gaziantep in southern Türkiye, causing no casualties.

On Wednesday, NATO air defense systems deployed in the eastern Mediterranean intercepted a missile launched by Iran toward Turkish airspace.

Iran has continued launching missile and drone attacks against Gulf countries, Iraq, Azerbaijan and Jordan, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure following U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran.
