Ankara , March 5 (SANA) Türkiye reaffirmed its ability to safeguard its citizens and protect its airspace, emphasizing that it remains committed to a responsible posture aimed at preserving regional peace and stability.
Anadolu Agency quoted Ministry Spokesperson Colonel Zeki Aktürk as saying in a press briefing Thursday “reserves the right to respond to hostile actions, regardless of their origin,” noting that Türkiye continues to monitor developments “in close coordination with NATO and other allied partners,” according to Anadolu Agency.
Aktürk’s remarks followed a Defense Ministry announcement on Wednesday confirming that a NATO‑operated air defense system stationed in the eastern Mediterranean had intercepted a missile launched by Iran toward Turkish airspace.
In a related move, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iran’s ambassador to Ankara, Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, on Wednesday to protest recent developments involving the fall of an Iranian missile in Turkish airspace.
