Damascus, Apr. 30 (SANA) Minister of Finance Mohamad Yisr Barnieh affirmed that digital transformation in Syria is no longer an option or a luxury, but an urgent necessity to achieve comprehensive economic development, noting that it has become a common pillar across strategies of various ministries and state institutions.
In a statement to SANA during his visit to the “Syria HiTech” exhibition on Thursday, Barnieh said digital transformation is a key tool for improving the quality of public services, enhancing transparency, and curbing corruption, in addition to creating new job opportunities and strengthening confidence in the national economy.
Barnieh explained that the Ministry of Finance places digital transformation at the core of its strategy, working to digitize financial services and simplify procedures for citizens, enabling transactions to be completed electronically without the need for physical presence or bureaucratic delays which will be reflected in reducing corruption and bribery, limiting the role of intermediaries, accelerating procedures, and improving citizens’ experience in dealing with government institutions.
The minister indicated that the government is moving toward offering incentives and exemptions to startups, particularly in technology and innovation sectors, stressing the importance of empowering youth with creative ideas—whether graduates or students—to transform them into productive projects that support economic development.
