Baku, March 5 (SANA) Nakhchivan International Airport and several areas in Azerbaijan’s autonomous Nakhchivan region were attacked Thursday by drones launched from Iranian territory, injuring two civilians and causing material damage to several facilities.
The Azerbaijani news agency AZERTAC reported that one drone struck the airport building, while another exploded near a school in the village of Shekarabad.
Baku strongly condemned the attack, calling it a blatant violation of international law and a direct threat to regional stability. It demanded that Tehran provide immediate explanations and take measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry summoned Iranian Ambassador Mojtaba Demirchilou and handed him a formal protest note, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s right to take appropriate countermeasures in defense of its territory and civilian infrastructure.
The escalation comes as Iran has continued missile and drone attacks on several countries in the region since last Saturday, following U.S.–Israeli strikes targeting sites inside Iran.
