Brussels, March 4 (SANA) The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) issued a strong condemnation on Wednesday following the targeting of Türkiye, a prominent member state of the alliance, by an Iranian ballistic missile launched toward its sovereign airspace.
In a statement relayed by Reuters, NATO Spokesperson Allison Hart declared: “The NATO alliance condemns Iran’s targeting of Türkiye.” She emphasized that the alliance stands firmly with all its allies, including Türkiye, at a time when Iran continues its “indiscriminate attacks” across the region.
Hart underscored that the alliance’s defense and deterrence posture remains robust across all dimensions, specifically highlighting the strength of its integrated air and missile defense systems. “Our commitment to the collective security of our members is unwavering,” she added, noting that NATO’s readiness ensures the protection of allied territories against evolving aerial threats.
This diplomatic response follows an earlier announcement by the Turkish Ministry of Defense, which confirmed that NATO air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed an Iranian ballistic missile. The projectile was tracked traversing the airspace of Syria and Iraq before being neutralized while heading toward Turkish territory.
Turkey has been a strategic member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization since 1952, hosting key alliance infrastructure and playing a central role in regional security coordination.
