Washington, March 3 (SANA) The U.S. military said Monday that American forces struck more than 1,250 targets during the first 48 hours of the war with Iran, as hostilities between the two countries intensified.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), in figures cited by Agence France-Presse, said the targets included command and control centers, ballistic missile sites, Iranian naval vessels and submarines, as well as anti-ship missile positions.
In a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, CENTCOM said Iran had 11 vessels in the Gulf of Oman two days ago but that none remained there. “Tehran has repeatedly attacked international shipping in this gulf, and that era is over,” the command said, adding that freedom of navigation has long been a cornerstone of U.S. and global security.
CENTCOM also said six U.S. service members were killed in military operations against Iran.
Since Saturday, missile strikes have been exchanged between U.S. and Israeli forces on one side and Iran on the other. Iran has also launched missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf states, as well as Jordan and Iraq, according to official statements.
