Washington, May 27 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Washington was not yet satisfied with the progress of negotiations with Iran, adding that the United States was not discussing sanctions relief as part of the current talks.
Speaking to reporters during a government meeting at the White House, Trump said Tehran was eager to secure an agreement.
“Iran is very determined and wants very much to make a deal,” Trump said according to Reuters. “We’re not satisfied yet, but we will either get there or we’ll have to finish the job.”
Trump also said a potential framework agreement with Tehran would guarantee the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz while preventing any party from controlling the strategic waterway.
“Nobody is going to control it,” he said. “It’s international waters.”
In remarks that appeared to reference Oman, Trump said Muscat would “behave like everybody else,” without elaborating further. Neither the White House nor the Omani embassy in Washington immediately commented on the statement.
Trump added that he was uncomfortable with the possibility of Russia or China obtaining Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
