Beirut, March 2 (SANA) Lebanon’s government on Monday banned Hezbollah from carrying out any military or security activities and ordered the group to hand over its weapons, in a move aimed at consolidating state control over arms.
The decision was approved during an emergency cabinet session, which emphasized that all weapons must be restricted to state institutions.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said Lebanon rejects any armed activity launched from its territory outside official authority, adding that decisions of war and peace rest solely with the state.
He called for an immediate halt to Hezbollah’s armed operations and said the group’s role should be limited to political activity within constitutional rules.
The government instructed security forces to prevent rocket or drone launches from Lebanese territory and to detain those responsible. It also tasked the Lebanese Armed Forces with implementing measures to restrict weapons north of the Litani River.
Lebanon renewed its call on countries guaranteeing the ceasefire to secure a clear commitment from Israel to halt attacks on Lebanese territory and reaffirmed its readiness to resume negotiations through international mediation.
