Ankara, March 2 (SANA) The Turkish Presidency on Sunday denied reports circulating on social media claiming the removal of 80,000 mines from the Turkish-Iranian border, calling the reports “misleading.”
The Presidency’s Center for Countering Disinformation said in a statement published on the NSosyal platform that the ongoing mine-clearing operations on the border are planned activities carried out within Turkey’s international obligations and are not intended to weaken border security, but rather to enhance it by replacing mines with more advanced monitoring and protection systems.
The center added that the Turkish border is secured “around the clock” through modern barriers, advanced monitoring systems, drones, and a multi-layered security deployment, urging the public to ignore publications aimed at “misleading public opinion.”
The reports came amid a broader regional escalation after the United States and Israel began launching military strikes against Iran last Saturday, and Tehran responded by launching missiles and drones toward Israel, Gulf states, and Jordan.
