Muscat, Mar. 1 (SANA) – Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman held separate phone calls Sunday with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss the escalating regional situation following exchanges of attacks between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other.
According to the Oman News Agency, the three leaders reviewed the repercussions of the escalation on regional and global security and stability, stressing the need for an immediate halt to mutual attacks and a return to dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
Earlier Sunday, Oman announced that the port of Duqm on its southeastern coast had been targeted by two Iranian drones, alongside an attack on an oil tanker off its shores in the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway linking the Arabian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.
Since Saturday morning, Iran has launched ballistic missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, triggering widespread regional and international condemnation. The attacks followed joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory.
