Qatar condemns Iranian attacks on Duqm port and oil tanker off Oman

Muscat, March 1 (SANA) Qatar on Sunday strongly condemned Iranian attacks on the commercial port of Duqm in Oman and on an oil tanker off its coast, calling them an escalation that violates Oman’s sovereignty and undermines regional mediation efforts.

The Qatar News Agency (QNA) cited a Foreign Ministry statement saying  that “these  aggressions represent a violation of the sovereignty of the Sultanate of Oman and an unacceptable escalation.” The ministry described them as “a cowardly targeting of a country that plays a pivotal role in mediation efforts between Iran and the international community.”

Doha affirmed full solidarity with Muscat and support for measures taken to safeguard its security and stability.

Earlier Sunday, Oman said the port of Duqm on its southeastern coast had been targeted by two drones. Authorities also reported an attack on an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s key energy shipping routes.
