CARACAS, Feb. 18 (SANA) A passenger aircraft operated by Spain’s Air Europa landed in Venezuela early Tuesday, becoming the first European commercial flight to arrive in the country following United States-led ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
The airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner touched down at Simón Bolívar International Airport near Caracas at about 9:00 p.m. (01:00 GMT), according to Agence France-Presse.
Several international carriers had suspended flights to Venezuela after warnings from the United States in late November about possible military action, prompting multiple airlines to withdraw from Venezuelan airspace, according to flight tracking data.
The flight’s arrival marks a symbolic step toward reopening commercial air travel between Europe and Venezuela after months of restrictions.
