The Arab Parliament welcomed France and other European countries’ recognition of the State of Palestine at the United Nations as a “historic” step and a “victory” to the Palestinian rights against Israeli policies.

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed al Yamahi said in a statement that the “recognition makes a shift” in supporting the Palestinian cause internationally, it embodies official recognition of the Palestinian people’s right to “establish their independent, sovereign state”, in accordance with international legitimacy and relevant United Nations resolutions.

Al Yamahi called on the other European states to join the path, which promotes efforts aiming at putting an end to the occupation and achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

The “Two-State Solution Conference,” held yesterday at the UN General Assembly headquarters in New York, affirmed recognition of the State of Palestine and called on the international community to move from words to action, halt the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, end the humanitarian tragedy there.
