Idlib, June 28 (SANA) Health Minister Musab al-Ali on Sunday launched a series of healthcare projects in Idlib province, including a new surgery department at Idlib National Hospital and the foundation of a specialized hospital in Saraqib, as part of efforts to strengthen medical services and expand healthcare infrastructure.

The Minister, accompanied by Idlib Governor Mohammed Abdul Rahman, inaugurated the surgery department at Idlib National Hospital and five general surgery clinics equipped with 40 inpatient beds aimed at improving access to specialized healthcare in the province.

They also laid the foundation stone for Saraqib Specialized Hospital, which is being supported by the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), along with a radiation therapy center backed by the Noor al-Hayat Association.

The hospital will be built on a 100-dunum state-owned site in Saraqib, chosen for its strategic location as a major transportation hub.

The radiation therapy center will be equipped with a linear accelerator for cancer treatment, making it the third such facility in Syria after Damascus and Latakia. The project is expected to serve as the foundation of a future medical city in Saraqib.

Earlier on Sunday, reviewed the province’s healthcare sector and discussed ways to improve medical services and address challenges facing hospitals and healthcare institutions. The discussions focused on strengthening healthcare delivery, supporting hospitals and medical centers, and providing essential resources to improve patient care across the province.

The inauguration of the new surgery department forms part of the Health Ministry’s efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand access to specialized medical services in Idlib.

In March, al-Ali inaugurated five health centers in the towns of Afes, Maaret Debsa, al-Tah, Ma’saran and Heish in the Idlib countryside to expand access to primary healthcare services across the province.

During the same visit, he also opened a kidney dialysis center in the city of Maaret al-Numan to improve medical services and support patients with kidney disease. The project is intended to ease financial pressures on residents displaced by the deposed regime, the ministry said.
