Syria discusses health sector reforms at IMF–World Bank meetings

Washington, April 17 (SANA) Finance Minister Mohamed Yisr Barnieh took part on Friday in a World Bank ministerial dialogue on universal health coverage during the IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington.

Minister Barnieh outlined the government’s efforts to increase health sector spending and improve wages for medical workers despite limited resources.

He underscored the government’s commitment to providing the necessary funding to rehabilitate public hospitals and health centers, emphasizing the importance of attracting new private sector investments to support the development of health services and strengthen their response capacity.

The 2026 IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings are being held in Washington from April 13 to 18, with the participation of government leaders, the private sector, and civil society to discuss global economic prospects, development challenges, and financial market stability. This year’s meetings focus on geopolitical conflict, inflation, and strengthening the resilience of energy supply chains.
