Damascus, June 5 (SANA) Syria on Thursday launched the first scientific conference organized by the Federation of Arab Gynecology and Obstetrics Societies (FAGOS) and the Syrian-European Gynecologic Oncology Group (SEGOC), bringing together regional and international experts in women’s health in the capital.

Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in cooperation with Syrian medical associations and specialist societies, the three-day conference features more than 35 international speakers from Syria and abroad.

The event includes a specialized medical exhibition showcasing the latest technologies and pharmaceutical products, alongside scientific sessions and workshops covering fertility and infertility treatment, fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, and minimally invasive surgery.

Higher Education Minister Marwan Al-Halabi said the conference is a platform for scientific exchange addressing key issues in women’s health, family wellbeing and access to advanced medical care. He stressed its role in strengthening research cooperation, updating clinical protocols and expanding training opportunities for young physicians.

Al-Halabi said Syria continues to invest in scientific expertise and academic partnerships, noting that the presence of Arab and international specialists in Damascus reflects the country’s active role in regional medical collaboration.

Health Minister Musab Al-Ali highlighted the importance of reproductive healthcare, maternal care and neonatal services as national priorities, stressing that such conferences enable knowledge exchange and support improved diagnosis and treatment in women’s health specialties.

Organizers said the conference aims to unify clinical approaches, enhance training and support the development of standardized treatment protocols, particularly in gynecologic oncology and assisted reproduction. The event brings together more than 250 in-person participants, with additional online attendance and speakers from several Arab and European countries.

A preparatory workshop on gynecologic oncology was held earlier this week at Damascus University Hospital with around 100 participating physicians, focusing on advanced surgical techniques and patient safety.
