Damascus, May 15 (SANA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria said on Friday that Abdulkader Husrieh has been appointed as the new Syrian ambassador to Canada, in line with established diplomatic procedures.
The Foreign Ministry’s Information and Communications Administration said the appointment reflects Syria’s focus on deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation and diplomatic engagement with friendly countries. It added that the decision comes in recognition of Husrieh’s successful national and professional contributions within the Syrian government, noting his effective role in institutional work and in advancing the performance of the files entrusted to him.
A graduate of the American University of Beirut and Durham University in the United Kingdom, Husrieh is a Syrian economist and legal expert with extensive experience in financial regulation and economic reform. He previously served as governor of the Central Bank of Syria, where he led monetary reforms, currency replacement programs, and moves to reintegrate Syria into international payment systems, including the resumption of Visa and Mastercard services in the country.
