Washington, April 29 (SANA) Regular consumption of avocado and mango may help improve blood vessel function and support heart health, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
The study, conducted by researchers at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, followed 82 adults with obesity or prediabetes over eight weeks.
Participants were divided into two groups, with one group consuming one avocado and one cup of mango daily, while the other followed an alternative diet.
Researchers found that those who consumed the fruits showed improved endothelial function, with blood vessel dilation increasing by about 1 percent, an indicator of better blood flow.
Matteo Landry, one of the researchers, said the improvement, though modest, could be clinically relevant, potentially reducing the risk of heart disease by up to 8 percent.
The study attributed the benefits to nutrients found in the fruits, including fiber, potassium, vitamin C and monounsaturated fats, as well as plant compounds that may reduce oxidative stress.
The findings come amid growing interest in the role of diet in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and supporting overall health.
