DAMASCUS, April 8 (SANA) Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan al-Halabi said improving healthcare outcomes begins with investing in medical education and expanding scientific research, describing human capital as central to reforming the sector.
In remarks Tuesday marking World Health Day, al-Halabi said university teaching hospitals play a dual role, providing healthcare services while serving as training environments for medical students, a process he said directly contributes to improving care quality.
He added that the ministry is continuing efforts to support medical education and promote applied research, aiming to build a sustainable and equitable healthcare system capable of addressing modern challenges.
Al-Halabi also paid tribute to medical, academic and research personnel, praising their role in maintaining healthcare services while contributing to education and scientific advancement.
World Health Day is observed annually on April 7. This year’s theme, “Together for Health… Support Science,” highlights the importance of scientific knowledge and international cooperation in improving public health.
A global campaign launched to mark the occasion aims to strengthen collaboration in protecting the health of humans, animals and plants, as well as safeguarding the environment.
