Damascus, May 7 (SANA) – Syria’s Ministry of Education and the Planning and Statistics Authority signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday aimed at strengthening education planning through improved statistical cooperation and evidence-based policymaking.
The agreement was signed in Damascus by Education Minister Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko and Head of the Planning and Statistics Authority Anas Salim.
Under the memorandum, both sides will work on analysing administrative records, addressing gaps in quantitative and qualitative education data, and training technical staff in data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and planning methodologies.
The initiative is designed to support more accurate decision-making, align education outcomes with Syria’s economic and social development priorities, and strengthen institutional planning capacity across the education sector.
Minister Turko said the ministry would facilitate access to available education data, support field teams assigned by the authority, and help ensure the implementation of agreed statistical surveys and planning frameworks.
Salim said the authority would provide specialised trainers and technical expertise in modern statistical systems and education planning models tailored to Syria’s national development framework.
Officials said the partnership is expected to improve the quality of educational data systems and help translate raw data into practical indicators that can guide long-term policy and resource allocation.
