Damascus, July 2 (SANA)    Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan al-Halabi met on Thursday with Abdul Monem Hamid, head of the Union of Syrian Doctors and Pharmacists in France (UMPSF), to discuss ways to strengthen scientific and medical cooperation and prepare for the signing of a joint cooperation agreement.

During the meeting at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, talks focused on finalizing a cooperation agreement between the union and the ministry to facilitate future joint projects, as well as exchanges of medical and academic expertise, and remote lectures for medical residents in Syria.

The discussions also covered support for Al-Mouwasat University Hospital through the establishment of a bone marrow transplant unit backed by the French government, preparations for a conference organized by the union with the “Mihad” organization in Deir Ezzor in October, and a pulmonary diseases conference organized by the union with the Syrian Pulmonology Association the same month in Latakia.

Al-Halabi praised the union’s activities and its “great support,” stressing the importance of studying field medical campaigns conducted, training medical residents, and establishing a follow-up program with the union. He affirmed the ministry’s readiness to finalize the agreement in coordination with the Foreign Ministry for formal signing in the coming period.

The Union of Syrian Doctors and Pharmacists in France (UMPSF) is a professional and scientific umbrella organization representing Syrian medical and pharmaceutical professionals residing in France. Founded to represent Syrian competencies before French institutions, the union also plays a key role in supporting Syria’s health sector, organizing medical conferences and humanitarian missions.

In 2025, the union helped organize the first Euro-Arab Medical Conference in Damascus, bringing together over 1,000 doctors. The union has previously held official meetings with Minister al-Halabi, during which both sides agreed to formalize a cooperation framework to support the development of medical education in Syria.
