Aleppo, April 20 (SANA)    The University of Aleppo on Monday launched the first International Scientific Week, under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with broad participation from researchers and academics from Syria and abroad in what officials described as the largest event of its kind hosted by the university.

The program includes 24 specialized scientific conferences, along with technology, medical and cultural exhibitions, as well as literary and poetry events, with the participation of more than 1,000 speakers from Arab and foreign countries in addition to local and regional participants.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan al-Halabi said the event marks a new start for Syrian universities in strengthening scientific research and expanding international academic engagement.

He said the conferences cover a wide range of disciplines, including medicine, engineering, agriculture, humanities, literature and nutrition sciences.

Al-Halabi added that the strong participation of researchers arriving from outside Syria reflects renewed confidence in Syrian educational institutions and contributes to the exchange of expertise and the opening of new avenues for scientific and research cooperation.

He also stressed the importance of focusing on applied scientific research, linking educational outcomes to labor market needs and societal priorities, and supporting technical education as a key requirement for the next phase based on skills and competencies.

The minister noted that the activities are accompanied by 24 exhibitions across the university’s faculties, showcasing the latest medical and technical equipment and scientific innovations.

Dean of the Faculty of Economics Abdul Aziz Dughaym said the scientific week sends a message that Syria is moving toward reconstruction and progress through science, knowledge and the capabilities of its people.

The multi-day event includes scientific sessions, specialized workshops and diverse cultural activities aimed at strengthening the University of Aleppo’s role as a leading academic and cultural center.
