BEIJING, May 16 (SANA) Syria and China are moving to strengthen economic cooperation and unlock new investment channels, following high-level talks between trade representatives in the Chinese capital.
Anas al-Bou, Head of foreign relations at the Syrian Chamber of Commerce Federation, met with the director of international relations at the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, to discuss practical steps toward expanding bilateral commerce, according to a statement issued Saturday.
Key outcomes included an agreement to establish a recurring “Syrian-Chinese Business Salon,” to be coordinated by the Syrian Embassy in Beijing.
The forum will rotate focus across key economic sectors, convening private and public sector stakeholders to foster direct engagement and pinpoint joint ventures.
al-Bou also pressed Chinese authorities to simplify and expedite visa issuance for Syrian entrepreneurs, emphasizing that smoother mobility is critical to accelerating trade and investment flows.
On logistics, he called for the introduction of additional maritime shipping routes between the two countries. Currently, dependence on a single carrier has led to inflated freight costs, weighing heavily on Syrian importers and constraining commercial activity, he said.
The talks underscore both countries’ commitment to reinforcing economic partnership, enhancing the investment climate, and broadening trade opportunities in pursuit of shared strategic interests.
Syria’s chargé d’affaires in Beijing, Zakaria Lababidi, attended the meeting.
