Damascus, April 26 (SANA) Head of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce Alaa al-Ali held talks with Khalil Mohammad El-Haj Tawfiq, President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, on ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Damascus and Amman and facilitate trade exchange between the two countries.
During the meeting, held Sunday at the federation’s headquarters, the two sides discussed expanding commercial and industrial cooperation, improving coordination mechanisms and addressing challenges facing various economic sectors.
They also stressed the importance of accelerating the formation of a Syrian-Jordanian Joint Business Council to serve as an effective platform for supporting bilateral economic relations.
Al-Ali said the meeting marks an important step in advancing economic cooperation between Syria and Jordan, noting that it follows the recent session of the Higher Coordination Council held in Amman.

He said that meeting resulted in the adoption of a new mechanism for trade exchange, the resumption of transit movement between the two countries and renewed emphasis on mutual use of maritime ports.
For his part, El-Haj Tawfiq said his visit to Damascus comes as part of efforts to follow up on outcomes of the council meetings in Amman, which focused on strengthening economic and trade ties with broad participation from both sides.

Both parties said the next phase requires joint efforts to activate agreements and memoranda of understanding and turn them into practical projects that help stimulate trade and investment in line with the directions of both countries’ leaderships.
The second round of the Syrian-Jordanian Higher Coordination Council concluded in Amman on April 12, co-chaired by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, with the participation of 30 ministers from both countries.
