Damascus, June 7 (SANA) The Syrian Interior Ministry announced Sunday the arrest of criminal Ghassan Assaf, a former officer in the deposed regime, following a security operation carried out by the Counter-Terrorism Directorate.

The ministry said in a statement that Assaf previously served as office manager to criminal Suheil al-Hassan, while holding the rank of assistant sergeant in the deposed regime’s security apparatus.

The statement added that Assaf was involved in violations against civilians in western Aleppo countryside and had engaged in illegal activities following Syria’s liberation, including recruiting terrorist cells, inciting unrest and participating in attacks targeting public security personnel and institutions.

The ministry has arrested several individuals linked to the deposed regime in different parts of the country since early June as part of ongoing efforts to maintain security and pursue those accused of violations against Syrians.
