Aleppo International Airport deal seen as pivotal for aviation sector, Governor

Aleppo ,Feb. 7 (SANA) Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib affirmed that the signing of the investment contract for Aleppo International Airport on Saturday represents a pivotal step in the development of Syria’s aviation sector.

In a post on the “X” platform, al-Gharib explained that the first phase of the project will focus on upgrading the existing airport by improving current facilities, including runways and terminals. In the second and third phases, a completely new airport will be constructed, with a capacity of six million passengers annually in phase two, rising to twelve million in phase three, alongside a flexible plan for future expansion.

The governor noted that the architectural design of the new airport will be inspired by Aleppo’s history of progress and civilization, reflecting the city’s cultural identity. He emphasized the importance of this step as a new beginning for Aleppo, opening wide horizons for economic development in the region.

Al-Gharib noted that the project opens broad prospects for strengthening air connectivity, supporting the local economy, and creating new job opportunities.
