Syria, Turkey explore transport investment opportunities

Syrian Minister of Transport Yarub Badr met Wednesday with representatives from Turkish companies to discuss expanding cooperation in transport and infrastructure investment. The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, focused on strategic projects aimed at boosting regional connectivity and economic ties.

Among the proposed initiatives were the transport of phosphate from Homs to Latakia port, the construction of major highways linking north–south and east–west corridors, and the development of a national digital freight platform. Plans also include rehabilitating the historic Hejaz railway line to extend from Syria to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Medina.

Minister Badr emphasized Syria’s openness to public-private partnerships and the role of transport infrastructure in post-war reconstruction and regional trade.

The Turkish delegation expressed interest in participating within Syria’s legal and investment frameworks and agreed to exchange technical studies and project documents.
