Homs, June 15 (SANA) The Shajan Ensemble performed a concert of traditional and classical Arabic music in Homs on Sunday as part of the city’s Intangible Heritage Week, an event aimed at promoting Syria’s cultural heritage.

Held at the Palace of Culture, the concert featured a repertoire of folk songs and classical works drawn from Syrian and Arab musical traditions. The program included selections by Lebanese singer Fairuz and concluded with the song “Ya Asi Ya Zein,” a tribute to the city of Homs and its cultural legacy.

The event also featured a solo violin performance by musician Yasser al-Ashqar.

Conductor Nawfal Darbouli said the concert was designed to connect younger audiences with traditional musical heritage through a program combining folk and classical Arabic music. The ensemble included around 20 musicians and vocalists with academic and professional backgrounds, he added.

Aya Salim, head of the Heritage Department at the Homs Directorate of Culture, said the Intangible Heritage Week, which runs from June 13 to 17, seeks to highlight Syrian heritage as part of the country’s cultural identity and collective memory.

Khaled Faraj, a member of the Syrian Historical Society, said preserving intangible heritage, including music, folklore, customs and traditional cuisine, remains important for passing cultural traditions to future generations.

The concert was one of a series of cultural events organized by the Homs Directorate of Culture during Intangible Heritage Week to promote awareness of Syria’s cultural traditions and artistic heritage.
