Damascus, May 20 (SANA) Syrian short drama series “Yom wa Shway” (“More Than a Day”) has won an award at the internationally recognized Telly Awards, marking a new milestone for Syria’s emerging drama productions.
In a statement published on his Facebook page, the series’ writer and director, Yaman Antabli, described the award as “a major victory for a team that believed in the project’s message despite the absence of conventional production conditions,” adding that the achievement opens new horizons for a new generation of Syrian creators and independent storytelling.
Produced for the Al Araby Plus platform, the five-episode series presents a condensed dramatic portrayal of the social and humanitarian situation during the Syrian revolution through the story of a middle-class Syrian family struggling with detention, migration, poverty and years of separation.
The series follows the family’s emotional journey as political and social transformations reshape their lives, culminating in renewed hope with the fall of the deposed regime after years of suffering and uncertainty.
According to the production team, the title carries symbolic significance, referring to the long years of hardship endured by Syrians and the brief moments that transformed their fate and revived hopes for freedom and reunion.
The work adopts a minimalist dramatic structure with limited locations and characters, relying on visual storytelling and intimate everyday details familiar to many Syrians, including electricity shortages, fuel scarcity, checkpoints, detention and exile.
The cast includes Syrian actors Yara Sabri, Jamal Al Ali, Farah Al Dbayat and Taim Hannawi, alongside child actors Jamil Marai and Jad Al Rajoula, whose performances received widespread praise.
A technical and production team from Syria and Türkiye collaborated on the project despite limited resources, reflecting what Antabli described as a bold effort to support unconventional Syrian drama productions.
Founded in the United States, the Telly Awards annually honor outstanding television, digital and video productions from media institutions and production companies worldwide.
