Rabat, May 8 (SANA) Five Syrian publishing houses are taking part in the 33rd Rabat International Publishing and Book Fair, which has brought together 890 exhibitors from 60 countries in the Moroccan capital.
The event coincides with UNESCO’s selection of Rabat as World Book Capital for 2026.
Syria’s participation includes Dar Al-Takween, Dar Mamdouh Adwan, Dar Safahat, Dar Al-Farqad and Dar Al-Shamiyah, which are showcasing literary, historical and academic publications. Syrian sculptor Assem Al-Basha, based in Spain, and poet Fouad Al-Awad, based in Germany, are also participating.
Sami Ahmed, owner of Dar Al-Takween, told SANA that the event contributes to strengthening cultural ties between Syria and Morocco, noting strong turnout from Arab and international visitors to the Syrian exhibits.
The fair features more than 200 cultural events involving 720 participants, including seminars, workshops and literary discussions.
This year’s edition pays tribute to the Moroccan traveler Ibn Battuta through a special exhibition featuring rare manuscripts and maps documenting his journeys. France is the guest of honor, with a program focused on youth and literature that includes Nobel Prize-winning author Annie Ernaux.
Held annually since 1987, the fair takes place at the OLM exhibition grounds in Rabat and is organized by Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication. It also hosts several cultural awards, including the National Reading Award.
