Damascus, April 21 (SANA) The Children’s Book Fair opened on Tuesday at the National Library in Damascus, bringing together more than 30 publishers under the theme “A Generation Reads… A Nation Rises.”
The event was inaugurated by Culture Minister Mohammad Yassin al-Saleh and runs until April 26. It features a range of cultural and artistic activities, including theater performances and competitions.
Al-Saleh said at the opening ceremony: “We want Syria’s children to read what opens the path to understanding, not what instills fear; to read what connects them to their land, history and language without isolation,” without losing identity.
He added that reading helps shape a person who knows how to question, imagine, and see knowledge as a gateway to responsible freedom, becoming better able to contribute to building their country.
The fair includes books and interactive activities for children, adolescents and families, with a daily program running from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to organizers.
Activities are being held inside the National Library, while outdoor spaces host programs designed for children.
The program includes children’s theater, films and music performances, as well as art activities such as drawing, coloring and face painting. It also features daily contests and a segment dedicated to showcasing young talent in singing, poetry and storytelling.
