Al-Halqi: Syrian Government committed to cooperate with UN to deliver aid to affected citizens

Damascus, SANA- Prime Minister-designate Wael al-Halqi affirmed Tuesday the Syrian Government’s commitment to cooperate with all international organizations working in the humanitarian and relief domain, particularly with the World Health Organization, to deliver aid to all citizens affected by acts of terrorists.

Al-Halqi, meeting the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) Ertharin Cousin, said the Government is determined to cooperate with the UN and facilitate the delivering process to all affected citizens without discrimination, taking into consideration the Security Council resolutions 2139 and 2165.

He affirmed that the UN General Secretariat’s implementation of those resolutions requires its commitment to respect national sovereignty, transparency and neutrality.

Al-Halqi added that the crossings specified by resolution 2165 are being used by the terrorist originations to enter weapon-loaded vehicles into the Syrian lands under the pretext of delivering humanitarian aid.

He underlined the Syrian Government’s commitment to cooperate with the UN humanitarian aid agencies.

For her part, Cousin expressed satisfaction over the great and fruitful cooperation by the Syrian Government to provide the logistic and security facilitations to deliver aid to the targeted areas.

Al-Moallem: Syria is committed to its obligations and full cooperation with humanitarian agencies

In the same regard, Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem discussed with Ertharin Cousin and the accompanying delegation means to enhance the standing cooperation between the Syrian government and the WFP to guarantee that aid reaches all affected Syrians across the country.

Al-Moallem affirmed that Syria is committed to its obligations and to full cooperation with UN humanitarian agencies as to deliver to aid to all those who need it without discrimination, all within the framework of respecting Syria’s sovereignty.

For her part, Cousin lauded the Syrian government’s cooperation and constructive efforts to overcome the challenges facing the WFP’s work in Syria, reviewing the progress made in implementing the organization’s plan, asserting readiness to exert all possible efforts to ensure the success of this plan.

Caretaker Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad met Cousin earlier, with the two sides underlining the good cooperation relation between Syria and the WFP.

Mikdad voiced the Syrian government’s readiness to boost coordination with the WFP to increase the number of people who benefit from the aid it provides in areas that need it, stressing that humanitarian aid must never be politicized in service of certain Western countries’ agendas.

He also affirmed that the unilateral sanctions imposed by Western countries on Syria are immoral, as they contribute to the death of innocent Syrian women, children, and elderly people, asserting that humanitarian aid must never reach terrorist organizations in any way or form.
