Iraqi Foreign Minister: Syria and Iraq are confronting terrorism, their stability is interlinked

Baghdad, SANA – Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said that Syria and Iraq are confronting terrorism, and since they are neighboring countries, their stability is interlinked.

In an interview with Russia’s Sputnik news agency published on Wednesday, al-Jaafari said Iraq is ready to assist and act as a mediator to help reach a political solution for the crisis in Syria.

He noted that Iraq is a neighboring country for Syria, has a presence in the Arab League, is also a victim of terrorism, and has good relations with Syria, Iran, and Russia, all of which makes it qualified for playing the role of mediator.

The Minister said that certain states are allocating massive budgets for supporting ISIS as the terror organization has massive resources, but he refrained from naming these states as Iraq wants to maintain good relations even with states that are involved in supporting ISIS out of hope that they will come to their senses.
