Army General Command announces the formation of the Fifth Legion

Damascus, SANA – The General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces announced on Tuesday the formation of the “Fifth Legion” to work alongside the rest of the military formations and supporting forces to return security and stability to the entire Syrian territory.

“In response to the rapid developments of events and for further consolidating the successes of the armed forces and meeting the desire of the our people in putting a final end to the terrorist acts on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, the General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces announces the formation of the Fifth Legion of volunteers with the task of eliminating terrorism, along with the rest of the our armed forces formations and allied and supporting forces, to return security and stability to the entire territory of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the Command said in a statement.

It called on citizens who want to take a part in accomplishing the final victory over terrorism to visit the recruitment application centers opened in various provinces for the purpose, including in Damascus, Homs, Hama, Aleppo, Tartous, Lattakia, Daraa and Sweida, noting that citizens from the eastern region can visit those centers as well.

The Command pointed out that the volunteers who will be recruited in the Legion must be all Syria men above 18 who are not already conscripts or deserters, adding that the Legion will also accept volunteers who have finished their military service and state employees under one-year renewable contracts.

State employees who will be recruited will keep all the rights and benefits they receive in their work places, in addition to the regular amounts of money they will receive from the Legion.
