Update-People’s Assembly holds first session for the second legislative term’s second round

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly held on Monday its first session for the second ordinary round of the second legislative term, headed by its Speaker Hadiyeh Abbas.

The session is attended by Prime Minister Imad Khamis and members of the Cabinet, with the session’s agenda including a review by Khamis on the economic, social, and services situation.

During the session, Speaker Abbas stressed the need for the Cabinet to realize the goals it set in its ministerial statement two months ago, noting that there have been some positive indicators in this regard.

She called on the Assembly members to present their visions and remarks regarding the government’s plans and shed light on any shortcomings.

Abbas said that the political situation and the situation on the ground are complicated, and despite certain sides’ attempts to complicate them further, the course of events is moving in the direction of the Syrian state’s vision of having fighting terrorism as a priority, holding dialogue, and reconciliation.

She noted that the victories achieved against terrorism by Syria with the support of friends like Russia and Iran have confused those who support terrorists, which is why they intervened directly in Deir Ezzor and committed a blatant crime to support the defeated terrorism, adding that the Israeli enemy also interfered multiple times in the same manner and for the same purpose which us supporting terrorism.

The Speaker highlighted recent achievements in reconciliations and settlements like those that took place in Daraya town in Damascus Countryside and in al-Waer neighborhood in Homs city, affirming that the reconciliation process will continue.

In turn, Prime Minister Imad Khamis pointed out that the government has worked during the last period and according to the ministerial statement on two axes: firstly the urgent priorities and on top of them providing full support to the armed forces in confronting terrorism in light of the escalation is currently happening on several fronts, reactivating the production wheel in the main economic sectors, exerting efforts to meet the needs of citizens and to alleviate as much as possible of war’s effects on their daily lives.

Khamis added that the second axis of the government’s work is related to working on putting national strategies in all fields that will help the state and community to overcome the effects of war and to move forward towards the reconstruction of renewable Syria.peoples-assembly-khamis-1

The Premier said that the executive and legislative authorities should be working together for the best interests of Syria and under the directives of President Bashar al-Assad and his daily follow-up for of the conditions of the homeland and the citizens.

Khamis noted to the continued unilateral coercive economic measures that led to deepen the suffering of the Syrian people, mainly in offering their basic needs of food, medicine and heating fuel.

He expressed appreciation for the Syrian Arab Army and all friendly countries that support Syria in its war against terrorism, adding that the governmental work is a true reflection of the victories of the Syrian Arab Army.

“The oil sector will witness a remarkable improvement during the coming months to meet the demands of citizens,” Khamis said, adding that a number of electric transmission stations will be put into service in the cities of Homs, Sweida and Damascus countryside, with 12 billion SYP, to boost electricity system in the country.

He said that the government has fulfilled the state’s general budget for 2017, with nearly 700 billion SYP rise in comparison with the last year.
