New York, SANA- Members of the US Peace Council delegation who have lately visited Syria said that the country confronts a terrorist war waged against the Syrian people, affirming that it is not a civil war as some like to call, adding that the visit paid by the delegation to Syria aimed at highlighting and conveying the true image of what is happening in Syria to the American public opinion.
Alfred Marder, member of the Council said at a press briefing that was organized by the permanent mission of the Syrian Arab Republic to the UN in New York, that the US Peace Council’s main principles are based on the United Nations’ Charter and respecting the sovereignty of states, so members of the delegation meant to convey the true image of the terrorist war waged against the Syrian people.
For their part, members of the delegation Henry Lowendorf, Joe Jamison, Donna Nassor and Madelyn Hoffman denounced the policies of the US administration and the western countries and their support to the armed terrorist groups in Syria, adding that the Syrian people face international terrorism and mercenaries from all over the world, noting that the Syrian people support the Syrian leadership and army.
They affirmed that President Bashar al-Assad depends on national relation and mutual trust with the Syrian people.
The US peace activists referred to the spiritual unity among the Syrian society, saying that when they asked Grand Mufti of the Republic Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun and the Patriarchal Associate of Antioch and All the East for the Greek Orthodox church Bishop Luke Khoury about the number of Muslims and Christians in Syria, both of them replied that the Syrian people’s number are 23 million of Muslims and 23 million of Christians.
They said that their meeting with President al-Assad, which lasted for nearly two hours, was transparent and open, adding they were astonished at the US unfair economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people which resemble the sanctions imposed on Iraq at early nineties of the 20th century and claimed the lives of hundreds of children.
The American activists warned that the US administration wants to “change the Syrian legitimate government” in order to implement its plans, adding that “President Obama’s term of office was full of aggressions and wars on other nations.”
They affirmed that their visit to Damascus aimed to see the reality of the situation, away from the media fabrications.
The US Peace Council delegation visited Syria in late July 2016.
