Tblisi, SANA-The United States welcomed the Syrian army’s declaration of a 72-hour truce in Syria, hoping that it will be “a harbinger” that more ambitious and long-lasting similar deals could be struck.
“We very much welcome the Syrian army declaration of 72-hours of quiet,” US. Secretary of State John Kerry told a news conference in Tbilisi, adding that discussions were underway to try to extend the truce.
“We are trying very hard to grow these current discussions into a longer lasting … enforceable, accountable cessation of hostilities that could change the dynamics on the ground,” he said.
The General Command of the Army and Armed Forces announced earlier on Wednesday that a truce (regime of silence) is enforced across Syria for 72 hours.
The General Command said in a statement that the truce will last from 1:00 am, July 6th until midnight, July 8th.
